'Springtime' chords at Canor

- By Peter Sockett

WITH the relaxation of the Covid regulations we can kickoff our Easter celebrations in style this year with a cava and canapes ‘Springtime’ musical evening at Salones Canor Teulada on Friday, April 1.

After the reception, Jalón Valley Help has assembled two leading choirs to provide the musical entertainment, so that we can sit back and listen a wide repertoire of songs from the Lisburn Harmony Ladies Choir and the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir.

The Lisburn Harmony Ladies Choir, from Northern Ireland, was formed by Kirsty Orr in 2010 to meet the need for a community women's choir in the city. The choir boasts a repertoire from pop to soul, swing to classical and everything in between, with an emphasis on having fun. The choir is well travelled, having performed in England, Scotland, Ireland and Germany and has won international recognition as festival winners on three separate occasions. This is the choir's first trip to Spain and was selected as the country in which they would celebrate their 10th anniversary, but regrettably the Covid pandemic caused this to be rescheduled twice. So, finally the ladies are coming and they are all looking forward immensely to sharing their music with the JVH’s mixed-nationality audience.

The Irish ladies will be supported by the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir, which will be presenting its eclectic repertoire, including songs from musicals, and popular, classical, traditional and sacred tunes. As you may already know this was the first expatriate male voice choir on the Costa Blanca. The CBMVC gave six performances in 2021 and it was one of the first choirs to give a public performance once Covid restrictions permitted, when they sung at the Benidoleig cave on July 21 last year. The choir has an excellent reputation and a strong following in the region.

It promises to be an excellent celebration of music presented by two exceptional choirs and a wonderful way to celebrate spring time and Easter. Tickets for the performance and the cava and canape reception cost €20 and may be obtained via email to eventsjvh@ gmail.com or by telephone on 634 305 005.

Do come along and enjoy this very special evening with some exceptional singers.

Helping Ukraine

In recognition of the horrific events in Ukraine, Jalón Valley Help has decided to offer its help to all those persons affected or displaced by the invasion by donating all the March takings from its three charity shops in Alcalalí, Orba and Jalón, plus any cash donations made at the shops, the Ánimo Drop-In centre or paid direct to their bank (see website for details) and referenced ‘Ukraine’.

JVH expects to raise in the region of €5,000 in the shops so it is making a payment of this amount to the Red Cross immediately. So please support JVH in this endeavour and make this a record month in takings at the shops and with donations. Let’s do our bit to help in this tragic event.
