Association of Foreign Property Owners
AFPO, the Association of Foreign Property Owners, based in Calpe, held a very successful meeting at the Diamante Beach Hotel, on Tuesday, March 1.
Betty Gower, one of the first members of AFPO (member number 10) was thanked for her many years as a member, editor of the magazine and for all her committee work. The president presented her with a gift voucher, and she will be invited to have a meal with the other committee members in April.
The AFPO interpreter service continues to provide help for many patients at the Calpe health centre. Afternoon appointments can be made by calling 620 687 633. We are always looking for interpreters to join the service. One of our new interpreters was introduced at the meeting. Our interpreters have been busy helping the staff at the health centre to arrange Covid injections for the many people who have had their first vaccinations in different countries.
The guest speaker, Marcos Iglesias - a British-born international lawyer, based in Alicante and Salamanca, where he lectures at Salamanca university - was welcomed by the president. Rather than talk of specific taxes in Spain he offered to answer questions that members wished to enquire about in an informal way. Many questions revolved around inheritance tax and Marcos advised members to make sure they had a testament/will, as the taxation process takes a long time and it will be dealt with much quicker if the deceased has made a will at a notary. He suggested it was far better to discuss the matter with a ‘gestor’ beforehand.
The next meeting will be the AGM, on Tuesday, May 24, in the Diamante Beach Hotel Salones, at 10.00 for 10.30. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
