The Gals of Gran Alacant
JUST two and a half years ago, six new friends met up in Gran Alacant for a coffee and decided to set up a Facebook page with the main intention of welcoming new ladies (particularly those on their own) to the area.
The group now boasts 279 members of wide-ranging nationalities and life experiences. Ladies who all have a connection to Gran Alacant and are looking for friendship, support, information, a few laughs and the occasional shoulder to cry on.
Julie Lewis says: “As a female new to Gran Alacant, I was keen to meet up with others who have similar interests, experience and knowledge of the area - the group has simply snowballed from there. We have had great feedback from people who have met new friends through our monthly socials or simply had a question answered on our page. We meet at different venues around Gran Alacant for our monthly get together to make sure we are supporting local businesses as best we can.
“Over the past few months we have enjoyed social lunches, new member coffee meet ups, a walking tour of Alicante and fundraising events for the SAT animal charity. Members have also established a Knit and Natter group, an E-bike outings group and we have recently hosted a tax information sharing event for those struggling with some of the bureaucracy here.”
It is fantastic that so many ladies are taking the opportunity to meet up to enjoy each other’s company, share knowledge and experience, offer support, and explore together this beautiful area.
Feedback about the benefits experienced by members has been amazing – ladies come along to an event alone and leave having made new friends.
One member said recently: “It's not just an ordinary Facebook group, it's a kind of support group helping women in its own way. Proud to be a member.”

Ladies will simply be required to answer three questions about their links to Gran Alacant before their request to join is processed.
