It’s Nick at the double at Argos

ON Tuesday, March 8, we made the journey into Murcia to fish two consecutive matches at the fantastic Embalse de Argos near Caravaca de la Cruz.

The first day was fished in very overcast conditions, following the very heavy rains of the previous few days. Upon arrival the temperature was a lowly two degrees and we expected the fishing to be tough. This was in fact the case but we still had a great time.

Winner on day one was Nick Bastock, drawn on the cold side on peg 6, after a very slow start the fish suddenly turned up and he caught carp after carp for 17.52kg. He fished the method feeder with red robin pellets at about 30 metres. In second place, making a welcome return after a short illness was Barry Smith. Drawn on peg 10 on the cold side he fished a mixture of feeders but mainly with maggot for 16.80kg. Barry would have won the match but for a Harry Houdini carp that managed to jump out of his landing net and grasp back into the water whilst unhooking it. In third place was myself, Ian Brown. I was also on the cold side on peg 11 and caught eight barbel and two carp, all on the slow sinking feeder with 6mm pellet for 11.28kg.

The pairs event was won by Paul Burton and Nick Bastock with 25.26kg. The other section winner was Graham Patterson with 5.06kg from peg 1.

The following day we once again had a very cold start, but the temperature warmed up to about 18 degrees. Once again, the winner was Nick Bastock drawn on peg 10 on the cold side. Nick caught mainly carp and the odd barbel on both slow sinker and method for 16.66kg. Richard

Smith took second place from the end peg 7 with 14.84kg of carp on the pellet and method. I was once again third with 10.68kg from the same peg 11. This time all caught on the bottom, but again with pellet. The other section winner was Richard Wood from peg 4 with 7.92kg.

We decided to have a triples competition and this was a very tight affair. It was won by myself, Nick and Barry with 30.78kg, taking victory by just less than a kilo.
