Helpline set up for refugees from Ukraine

Valencia government activates service for the region

THE VALENCIA government has launched a special hotline for Ukranian refugees.

Councillor for justice and the interior Gabriela Bravo said the ‘112 Ucrania’ number was to attend to people affected by the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion, who have reached the Valencia region.

The move was announced after many Ukrainian citizens complained that the dedicated number for the National Police – 910 474 444 – was so busy that people are unable to get through to obtain appointments for residency permits.

Sra Bravo said the operators at the emergency services HQ in Valencia will offer refugees specialised advice in their own language.

It is designed to ‘resolve the questions they might have and the basic necessities of people who have recently arrived’, she explained.

The service is available 24hours-a-day, assured Sra Bravo, ‘so that all the people who come to this region are guaranteed information in their own language’.

The councillor added that they have also set up an attention service which allows refugees to receive information about accommodation, legal services, employment, documentation and other useful telephone numbers.

She said that this would ‘give an answer to a humanitarian necessity’.

“We think that it is very important that people who come to the Valencia region have all this information available immediately,” noted Sra Bravo.

People who want to volunteer their services can also ring the helpline to receive guidance on how to go about it, she added. This advice covers humanitarian aid such as food and clothing, housing refugees and registering to volunteer, etc.
