Benidorm asks for Alicante cash

- By Irena Bodnarec

BENIDORM council will request funding from Alicante provincial government to prevent flooding.

It is bidding to improve the collection and drainage of rainwater and the sewage system in three parts of the town – La Huerta, Bernat de Sarriá and El Campo.

Technicians have drawn up the plans for the project, with an estimate of €275,000 for the works.

In recent years extensive investment has been made on the hydraulic network, with works on Avenida Mediterráneo, Doctor Orts Llorca, the intersection of Alfonso Puchades and at Ametlla del Mar.

The recent torrential rains have proved the works were successful, with no flooding affecting pavements or roads in those areas.

Mayor Toni Pérez explained that large investments will continue to be made, creating a lot of disruption.

However, this was worthwhile

‘as drinking water remains unaffected and safe to consume, without turbidity, unlike in other nearby towns’.

Of the three improvements, the first one proposes the installation of a rainwater drainage pipe from Avenida Comunidad Valenciana that will conimprove

nect to the drains on the Cami de La Valenciana.

This will take two months to complete at an estimated cost of €168,863.

The second project is on a section between Calles Zamora and Juan Fuster Zaragoza in the Rincón de Loix district, to drainage to prevent puddles forming at a cost of €71,129 with an execution period of one month.

Finally, the repair of an old sewage drain on Calle Costera del Campo will cost around €35,848, which will be completed in just a week.
