Call to take part in fiestas

-

ROJALES is preparing to put on its festive events again after being forced to suspend them during the pandemic, announced councillor for fiestas Jesús Martínez.

The San Isidro pilgrimage and the patron saint fiestas in honour of San Pedro and the Moors and Christians are coming over the next few months and opportunities to get involved have been published in the official bulletin for Alicante province (BOP).

These are the sevillanas dance contest for the San Isidro pilgrimage, the competition to design the cover of the book for the 2022 patron saint fiestas, and the opportunity to present candidates for the infant, juvenile and senior fiesta queens.

The sevillanas contest will be held on May 14 and for the first time it will be at the Malecón del Soto instead of El Recorral park, where the pilgrimage itself will still take place. The change of venue is designed to adapt the activities to new times so that more people can attend, after noticing in previous editions that numbers were declining, principally due to the difficulty of getting to El Recorral for many people. The contest has a juvenile and an adult category, in which pairs can be mixed or of the same sex. Participants can compete for two prizes per category: in the juvenile one there is €100 and a plaque for the winners, and €50 and a plaque for second place; while there is €150 and a plaque for the winning adults and €100 and a plaque for those who come second.

The fiestas book cover competition is open to all and each person can submit up to two entries, which must be original and unedited and cannot have won prizes in any other contest.

The theme of the design must be related to the fiestas in honour of San Pedro Apóstol and the Moors and Christians. The deadline is April 29 and the winner will receive €100.

Finally, candidates for the fiesta queens must be registered residents of Rojales and cannot have been chosen as queen before, amongst other requirements, and those chosen will have to attend activities related to their role.
