Fun and games

HAVE you ever played dominoes? My mother and grandmother spent many an hour with their dominoes and all I could hear was the clackety clack of them. If not dominoes it was cribbage. I was not invited to play that either!

Here in Spain we've all seen and heard elderly gentlemen playing dominoes in bars and outside on sunshaded tables.

It seems that board games and card games are coming back into fashion – maybe because of the lockdowns and the isolation, etc.

'Alfaz International Group, formed by the town hall to provide an information forum between the administration and the many varied and multicultural associations of the town, took up a suggestion from their monthly meeting that an opportunity be offered for members of any local association to have a set day, place and time to hold a board game afternoon, plus quizzes.

This would also be a way for residents of different nationalities to get to know each other, with English being the main language used. A decision was made on the fourth Wednesday every month at 16.15 in the Alfaz del

Pi Hogar de Pensionistas.

Members of local associations and their friends are invited to take part in the fun and games, playing dominoes, chess, Rummikub and others, or to learn how to play them. Other board games could be introduced at any time, and now and then quizzes take place.

I went along to the inaugural meeting and took part in a quiz and then the next month it was dominoes, which I now had the opportunity to learn. I did not do well I admit but nobody worried and I am going back for another lesson at the first opportunity which will be in April.

Why not come along and join me and the others in the board game of your choice.

So if you live locally come and join us on Wednesday, April

27 at 16.15 .

PS. Cribbage is also played in Alfaz at the Drunken Duck Inn on Monday afternoons.
