Easter/spring general assembly
YES, I know we have had several weeks of British spring weather, but I can assure you spring is here and, probably, by the time you read this article our sun will have been returned and we will be enjoying beautiful sunshine once again. So, to get you in the mood for Easter the Vall del Pop U3A is having an Easter/spring-themed general assembly on Thursday, April 7, at the Polivalent Murla.
After the usual association business there will be an 'egg-citing' decorated egg competition where we are hoping for all different sizes from chicken to chocolate - with colourful and clever decorations.
The spring theme is continued with a talk by Derek Lindley on his gardening exploits in Spain. Derek has been in Spain for nearly six years and has made a phased approach to preparing and planting his garden, many of you may have been following his articles in the Costa Blanca News. Derek is also a keen golfer and uses his writing skills to prepare the Pego Golf Society articles for the paper. All of this is a far cry from his ‘previous life’ in project and change management for a UK High Street electrical retailer. Despite 25 years living in Leighton Buzzard, he has still not lost his Yorkshire accent from his birthplace of Wakefield.
As someone who has been working for six years to generate an English garden from a rocky Spanish hillside, I am looking forward to getting some tips to advance my project.
Please do not forget to bring along your donations for the Ukraine families who have had to seek refuge from the war in their home country and are now living in our area. They have had to abandon everything but the few things they could carry, so be generous or do an early spring clean and donate all those items you have been hoarding for a rainy day to these deserving refugees.
