Lions donate to Raquel Paya school

- By Helen Chapman

TEULADA-Moraira Lions were once again honoured to be invited for breakfast at the Raquel Paya school near Denia. Raquel Paya is a specialist education centre which focuses on providing education and training to children and young adults with learning difficulties, particularly in terms of preparing the young people to fulfil active roles in society as they approach adulthood.

The school has students with a wide range of abilities and caters for people up to 21 years of age. Different therapies are developed focusing on communication improvement, sensory integration, social skills, behaviour control, but with the older students, they are focusing on developing skills they could use in the hospitality and catering industry. Teulada-Moraira Lions have had a long relationship with the school and their latest donation of over €2,000 has purchased an industrial standard dishwasher that the students can learn to operate. The school is developing links with hospitality providers in the area so that the pupils can gain some real work experience and ultimately take on employment in such establishments as Els Magazinos and restaurants in Denia and the Marina Alta. If you could offer the students any opportunity to experience basic catering tasks, please get in touch with the college by telephone on 96 642 88 80 or email 03012013@edu.gva.es

The Teulada-Moraira Lions were seated at beautifully presented tables and treated to silver service by the pupils, putting into practice some of their training and giving them real experience of serving the public. It is always a pleasure to visit the school and the addition of some tasty treats prepared on site is an added attraction – Lions like their breakfasts!
