Autism awareness
TORREVIEJA town hall has been holding an autism awareness campaign this week called ‘Un Feliz Viaje por La Vida’ (a happy journey through life).
Part of the campaign is the ‘Light It Up Blue’ initiative, which sees two of the municipality’s most emblematic buildings – Torre del Moro and the town hall – lit up in blue from tonight until Sunday.
The campaign forms part of the World Autism Awareness Day celebrations, which takes place annually on April 2. “For another year Torrevieja joins this campaign to
raise awareness about autism, and its commitment to promote actions that make the town an inclusive place,” said councillor for NGOs and volunteers, Concha Sala.
The ‘Un Feliz Viaje por La Vida’ campaign featured a total of eight activities aimed at raising awareness of people with autistic spectrum disorder.
The remaining activities include today’s (Friday) ‘inclusive business campaign’ which was created to guarantee cognitive accessibility in the town’s shops, buildings and collaborating institutions, thereby promoting the autonomy of people with functional diversity in Torrevieja.
From tonight the aforementioned Light It Up Blue initiative starts, which forms part of an international awareness campaign promoted by Autism Speaks.
The final activity takes place on Sunday and is an equine-assisted therapy (TEA) coexistence day, which takes place at La Palmera hipoterapia (equine-assisted therapy) centre, where participants can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere in the country, in the presence of animals, with the objective of experimenting with this alternative therapy, in a different environment, which is full of stimulation through horses.
