Campoverde Church's summer of gardening activity in the community

- By James McAllister

CAMPOVERDE Church prides itself on taking the word of God out of the church and into the wider community. This has resulted in a unique programme of activities that run all year both inside the church and outside in the wider community. But now, after a two year absence they are launching back into a summer of gardening activity with two garden-based events. Gardening is particularly important to us as it is the best way to connect with God’s creation and marvel at the wonder of it.

The first activity welcomes back ‘Campoverde Open Garden Day’. This will be returning on May 28 and will give everyone an opportunity to visit some of the interesting gardens in the village. We are now looking for gardens and gardeners who may like to participate. This is not a competition and it is open to all gardens from small terraces to large plots. The overall aim is to share your garden and the joy of gardening with others on May 28 from 11.00-16.00.

In past years ‘Open Garden Day’ has been a great success and helped raise funds for Campoverde Church and its work in the community. There is no cost to participating gardeners and all we ask is that visitors make a small donation towards the work of the church.

If you would like to participate or just inquire then please contact James McAllister at ja messamuelmcallister@hotmail .co.uk or phone 623 016 229.

The second activity is the ‘Sunflower Challenge’, where the residents of Campoverde have been challenged to grow the largest sunflower in the village. For just €5 local people have been provided with two sunflower seeds with instructions when to plant them, how to take care of them and the date when they need to measure

them for the ‘Sunflower Challenge’. There is no prize, apart from the immense satisfaction

of growing the tallest sunflower in Campoverde. In addition to bragging rights, the winner and their sunflower will feature in the local press and social media.
