The Voramar Calalga coastal path gets an award
The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) has awarded the Voramar Calalga path in Calpe with the Blue Path award, which recognises the recuperation and enhancement of paths and itineraries throughout Spain, turned into valuable resources for the enjoyment of nature. This award will be presented on May 26 at the Blue Path Flag Award ceremony at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Madrid.
In 2022, 86 Blue Paths have been awarded, and eight new Blue Paths have been added to the network, which now has a length of 474 kilometers’ distributed over 19 provinces. The ADEAC, which develops programmes such as Blue Flag or Eco schools in Spain, is the creator of this initiative to promote sustainable tourism and expand the tourist offer of our municipalities by raising awareness of their natural, cultural and historical heritage.
Work on this path was completed last week when its access to the Les Basetes cove was repaired following damage suffered during storm Gloria. Calpe town hall has invested around €23,000 in the refurbishment of several sections of the path.
In addition, several sections of the wooden railings that runs along the cliffs and coves that go from the beach of Calalga to Les Basetes will be shortly be replaced.
The councillor for beaches, Matías Torres said. “This is one of the most beautiful and busiest paths in Calpe, so it is not surprising that it has received the award, its refurbishment after the Gloria storm has taken longer than expected due to the need for authorisations and permits from other administrations, but today it is in perfect condition.”
