Warm greetings,

FIRST off, I must apologise for stating the wrong attendance time last week for our meeting on February 13, of 12.00 instead of 11.00, at the Cavern Café, Playa Flamenca, Orihuela Costa. Whoops...

Isn't it strange how some weeks really do seem to have speedier wings?! Another week in the bag – where did that one go to?

It is an interesting mental journey, to wonder how many other writers' minds wander when they should be concentrating on one specific thing. - like writing this feature... If you are a writer, do you have a notebook stuffed with a jumbled mountain of confusing information, dates and facts? I do… I checked on yesterday's eventual haul of scribblings and came up with the following: ‘Try and locate Michel Legrand's fabulous recording of the music from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg’, ‘and from The Postman?’ (We listen to the music on Classic FM a large part of the day when at home.)

I then came across a comment made by a favourite actor/comic/writer - Woody Allen. He said: of someone he knew: “His lack of education compensated for his keenly developed sense of moral bankruptcy!” And then this from 'im indoors:

She flew through the air with the greatest of ease: just wearing a smile and a flimsy chemise.

With the wind in her hair, and a complete lack of care, a fall from Grace would hardly be fair! Eric x Honestly, how can a woman concentrate! Now, let's get serious...

Fortuitously, I just read a fascinating post by 'Food in Books' – definitely worth reading if you like food. And who doesn't?! The author kindly reminded me of an outstanding Spanish writer - Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I have mentioned him before, as his work is way and above some of the more pedestrian tomes which reach the shelves... I too would describe him as a 'literary treasure', and – although I haven't read Cervantes - he has been likened to him. I was truly 'transported' when I read Carlos' book The Shadow of the Wind. Like listening to a great piece of classical music written by one of the greats, he, at times, reached my 'innermost corners...' For any serious reader who appreciates the 'cream of wordsmiths' his books and short stories are well worth seeking out.

Back to earth... we have to accept that there will always be more accomplished writers in our midst and all the better for that, for they can inspire us to try harder. Never a bad thing. Good luck whatever your aspirations Be well and happy.

Sincerely

Joy Lennick
