Nurses provide health education
AN ANNUAL programme of health promotion campaigns to be led by the nursing team from Rojales health centre has been presented by the Torrevieja hospital area health department.
This plan to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent illnesses was designed to familiarise residents with matters which affect their health.
It reinforces the public health initiatives of the regional health service in order to get people involved in their own wellbeing, explained area manager José Cano at the presentation on Tuesday.
The plan, which will be evaluated annually, covers the whole academic year and was compiled in accordance with the demands of local people and the interests of community representatives they worked with. The nurses tried to cover all aspects of residents’ overall health in an organised fashion that would meet their expectations and needs, explained Rojales health centre nursing coordinator, Abel Farjan.
“The plan has continuity and annual monitoring and starts by planning different activities that affect schoolchildren aged between 11 and 14, in order to monitor them more easily, improve their emotional wellbeing and detect risky situations,” he said.
According to nurses Cristina Hernández and Lorena Ruiz: “Our objective is to get to know the healthy population, offer them support, information and training in accordance with their needs and demands.”
Educational activities such as these also give professionals and patients from each health centre a chance to get to know each other better in a different setting.
Area director of nursing, Cristina Rech also noted the plan is a more direct way to establish channels of communication with local associations for people with illnesses, and to collaborate with town hall health departments. Activities include a ‘health school’ to make children aware of the importance of changing habits that affect their health and those around them, which started at the beginning of this school year.
