The Arts Society Marina Alta goes back to school… with Project Fish
The Arts Society launched its 2022/23 collaboration with CEE Gargasindi school in Benissa, in the Marina Alta, on November 16 last. Known as ‘Project Fish’ this is now nearing its completion. We have successfully fired over 150 ceramic fish produced by the students of the CEE Gargasindi school. Each of the fish, made from raw clay by the students was individually signed to enable each one to be returned to its rightful owner for painting. A group of the Arts Society members, led by Mireille Vetterli, then spent time with individuals and groups of students at the school, who have varying levels of disability. Our aim was to provide direction, and where necessary, assistance, in the painting of the fish. The students, and including the society members (may I say), took to this task like ‘fish to water’ with determination and an overall sense of fun!
The painting process was spaced over a number of days. We were surprised and delighted at the level of artistic merit and inspired colouring of the finished product.
I would say to all, and this is appropriate: “Bien hecho,” as the paints, brushes and associated equipment was provided in collaboration with Hecho Pinturas in Benissa.
The completed fish were then carefully packed to be taken away and mounted on display boards, and grouped to reflect swimming. The display boards will, in turn, be supported on wooden easels and exhibited at the school later this month, to the students, their carers, parents, our society members and the press.
Our society, together with CEE Gargasindi school, would like to take this opportunity to thank Marilyn at Inmobres Calpe, Miguel and Gloria at Hecho Pinturas Benissa, Mireille at Arte44 Calpe and the members of the Arts Society for their sponsorship and time given to contribute to this amazing project.
