ADIS adapted van for work

- By Barry Wright

BENEFICIARIES of the Vega Baja association for people with functional diversity (ADIS) now have an adapted van to take them to their places of work or employment training.

The donation was made by Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, at Dehesa de Campoamor, and the Gmp foundation, who united to promote the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the Vega Baja area.

The nine-seat vehicle has been totally adapted to accommodate people with reduced mobility.

The donation was made at the golf club last Friday (February 3), and was attended by ADIS president, Lourdes Pérez; Gmp foundation director, Francisco Fernández; and Las Colinas director of operations, Javier Rodríguez.

At the presentation, it was revealed that this donation ‘responds to an urgent demand in the

Vega Baja, a large area with poor communications, where the population is very widespread and needs unified resources that respond to different realities’.

Sr Fernández said: “It is important to remember the big difficulties that this collective has accessing work, and that thanks to this vehicle we are facilitating the employment of people with intellectual disabilities, which for many years has been one of our foundation's principle lines of action.”

Sr Rodríguez added: “Las Colinas Golf and Country Club is proud to participate with an initiative like this. We have a tradition of supporting the dozens of solidarity initiatives started by Grupo Gmp each year and we cannot fail our community on this occasion. ADIS is an reference point for integration and we hope this vehicle will help its members to have the quality of life they deserve.”
