New care home in San Pedro
THE ASSOCIATION for integration of disabled people in the Mar Menor area (Aidemar) has inaugurated a residential home for 68 people in San Pedro del Pinatar.
The facility was opened by the president of Murcia region, Fernando López Miras, alongside mayoress Visitación Martínez and Aidemar president Francisco García.
The modern complex offers places for dependent people with intellectual disabilities. It has large homes, a dining room, health area, store rooms, workshops, a laundry, gardens and a patio.
So far 60 of the 68 rooms are already occupied, with residents distributed around eight houses, grouped according to their disability.
Other positive effects of the residential home are that it employs more than 50 people, including counsellors, social workers, educators and caregivers.
Following the visit ,Sr López Miras stressed that ‘it is not just for residential use, but a real home’, and noted that the complex ‘will serve as an example for future centres’.
The building was constructed on a 5,000 squaremetre plot that was ceded by the town hall, and cost €4 million, including €650,000 from EU Next Generation funds.
The collaboration with the regional government comes through the public financing of places available at this and other Aidemar centres.
“There is no better way to invest public resources than in caring for people, because they are the most important thing,” said the regional president.
Francisco García explained how the project is the culmination of a dream shared by parents, families and beneficiaries of the association, which started its journey 40 years ago and has kept its promise to continue working, in a charitable way, with all administrations to attend, in an comprehensive fashion, to people with disabilities in the Mar Menor area.
