- Bwright@cbnews.es

PARADES, fancy dress contests and live music all form part of Jávea’s carnival celebrations, which take place tomorrow (Saturday).

The day features two separate parts, with the afternoon focusing on children and families and the evening dedicated to adults.

Councillor for fiestas Kika Mata explained that ‘after seeing how in recent years the standard of the fancy dress in the afternoon session has grown – both the children and parents’ groups that accompany them – this year it has been decided to increase the prizes for the most original entries in the children’s carnival’.

To this end, the individual children’s prize is €50, the best couple prize is €100 and the best group will receive €200.

The afternoon fancy dress parade starts and 17.30 and will be followed with live music from Canta Canalla and DJ La Gavi.

The adult carnival parade starts at 23.00 and will be followed with live music in Plaza de la Constitución, courtesy of the Titanic orchestra. People wanting to get as much enjoyment from the carnival as possible will then be able to listen to the Krakatoa disco, which will be playing music until the early hours.

The best fancy dress group in the adult parade will be awarded €200.

People and groups wanting to participate must register at the Fogueres fiesta association bar, half an hour prior to the parade.

Further south, Villajoyosa will be in full-on carnival mode tomorrow (Saturday), when the grand fiesta takes place on Calle Colón.

Prior to the fiesta, the carnival parade will have passed through the town centre, from Parque de la Barbera dels Aragonés to Chalet Centella, where the celebrations will continue until the early hours.

The carnival parade starts at 18.30 and, throughout its journey through the streets, will be accompanied by music, and a jury will be judging the participants’ fancy dress.

As is the tradition, the contest will reward the best group fancy dress (€300), the best individual fancy dress (€100), the most original fancy dress (€100), the best family fancy dress (€100 of school and teaching materials), and the best fancy dress for a child under 12 years (€50 of school and teaching materials).

Musical entertainment will be provided by the local band Carne de Cañón and DJ Verchel, DJ J Cris, DJ Eugeniet and DJ Medina.

The carnival fiesta will also have a bar service, with drinks being served at popular prices.
