P ego G olf S ociety

- By Derek Lindley

AFTER another cancelled game the week before, the weather on Tuesday, February 14, was overcast and none too warm. Nevertheless, we had a total of 27 players turn out to play for the prestigious Pego Putter. This is a bogey competition where the players play against the course.

We had one guest, Ray Young, who joined us again with his brother, Brendan hosting. Ray is a regular when he takes a break in Spain, he always tries to join us. And on the day he came away with a prize - we had a longest drive competition, as a one off for Valentine’s Day, which Ray won. The twos and the nearest the pin competitions were a clean sweep for Peter

Turner. He was nearest the pin on the fifth hole with his approach shot, he was again nearest the pin on the 16th, and, to cap it all, he had a two, which was the only two recorded on the day. As an added bonus, the two’s prize was a roll over from the last time we played, so Peter walked away with a bag full of cash!

There was some quite good scoring on the day, but the outright winner was well ahead of the field - with a very impressive six up against the course, well done Peter Hanks. He told me his putter was ‘hot’ and that really helped with his remarkable scoring. The other winners are listed below. The winners were:

1. Peter Hanks – six up

2. Geoff Dawe – two up

3. Andy Leach – one up

4. Peter Turner – one up

5. Derek Lindley – level

6. Fiona Sankey – level Next week’s game will be a team accumulator, if you would like to play, please email the handicap secretary at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com
