Police bust drug distribution network
NATIONAL Police officers have arrested three people in Muchamiel for drug trafficking offences.
A force spokesman said this has led to the ‘dismantling of an important cocaine and hashish distribution and sales point in Alicante province’.
The police investigation started in 2021 following an arrest from which information was obtained about several people based in the province who were possibly trafficking drugs.
Officers carried out surveillance to identify and monitor the suspects, discovering that they ‘moved around a lot and visited different homes and premises in and around Alicante city, which they entered and exited taking extreme precautions to avoid being detected’.
At the same time, they came into contact with other persons connected to drug trafficking.
During one of the surveillance operations, officers intercepted one of the suspects when he was about to enter a house.
A body search revealed he was carrying 130 grams of cocaine which were seized, and he was immediately arrested for drug trafficking.
After the arrest, and deeming it possible that more drugs could be sold and distributed at the two main drug selling points linked to the suspects, officers applied for a search warrant for the premises, which was authorised a few hours later.
During the two searches at a home in Muchamiel and another at a leisure establishment in San Juan Playa, a total of 600 grams of hashish and €46,000 in cash were seized and a man and a woman were arrested for the possession, distribution and sale of these substances.
Much of the hidden money and drugs were found in a
double bottom of a refrigerator in the Muchamiel property.
The officers also seized other equipment used for the handling and sale of drugs, such as precision scales, as well as two vehicles.
The three detainees, two men and a woman aged between 39 and 47, were handed over to an Alicante court. The judge sent one of the men to prison on remand, while the remaining detainees were released on bail.
