ELENA ASINS
Until May 28: The geometric abstraction of Elena Asins is on display at Alicante museum of contemporary art (MACA). Elena Asins was a conceptual artist, writer and art critic who formed part of the resurgence of Spanish art in the decades of the 60s and 70s. MACA is situated at Plaza Santa María, 3, Alicante and is open Tuesday-Saturday 10.00-20.00, and Sundays and public holidays from 10.00-14.00. It is closed on Mondays and May 1. Admission is free
SOROLLA AND VALENCIAN PAINTING OF HIS TIME
Until June 25: Joaquín Sorolla is the main protagonist of a new exhibition at Alicante museum of fine art (MUBAG). ‘Sorolla and Valencian painting of his time. Dialogues and contrasts’, compares the works of the region’s most famous and universal artist with those of his disciples and contemporaries, and also contains paintings by some of the painters who influenced him. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00-20.00, and Sundays and public holidays from 10.00-14.00. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free
IN HARMONY. EMILIO VARELA AND HIS CONTEMPORARIES
Permanent exhibition: Featuring works by Emilio Varela, Lorenzo Aguirre, Rigoberto Soler, Vicente Albarranch and Gastón Castelló. To highlight Varela’s works the exhibition curators selected paintings containing the province’s ‘luminous landscapes, recognisable urban views of the city of Alicante, extraordinary selfportraits, interiors, still lifes and portraits’ marked by the artist’s ‘original and unmistakable style’. THE 19TH CENTURY. THE COLLECTION IN THE LIGHT
Permanent: ‘The 19th century. The collection in the light’ exhibition at Alicante museum of fine art (MUBAG). Including eight works from the Prado museum in Madrid. Containing 75 paintings and sculptures of diverse themes which are being displayed in a renovated space within MUBAG, and pays homage to 30 artists linked to Alicante province. MUBAG is situated at Calle Gravina 13-15. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00-20.00, Sundays and public holidays 10.00-14.00. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free

SMALL INVITATIONS
Until April 30: The photographer José Bravo invites people to ‘look at the world in a different way’ in an exhibition at each of Benidorm’s outdoor urban art spaces (Espais d’Art Urbà). ‘Pequeñas invitaciones’ (small invitations) consists of 55 portraits that ‘appeal to the senses’. The main protagonists of the exhibition are people, and the majority of the images are ‘random captured moments’ in which, beyond the person portrayed, they seek to capture the feelings that surround them
