VALENCIA region’s Consorci de Museus (regional museum consortium CMCV) has announced details of the 10th PhotoAlicante international photography festival, which is taking place in various cultural spaces in Alicante city.

This year’s event goes under the theme ‘¡Celebremos!’ (let’s celebrate) and is being organised by the CMCV in collaboration with Alicante city hall, El Campello town hall department for culture and the Banco Sabadell foundation.

PhotoAlicante features exhibitions, talks and other events.

In amongst the host of exhibitions taking place, Las Cigarreras culture centre is hosting three displays: until May 27 is ‘Tiempo para celebrar’ (time to celebrate) featuring works sent in by the public; until May 13, the audio-visual project ‘Al azar de Baltasar, al azar’ by Rafael

Guijarro, based on the classic French film ‘Au hazard Balthazar’ (Balthazar at random) by Robert Bresson; and from March 20-29, the artist Claudio Nolasco, in collaboration with Miami University College of Arts and Sciences, will be presenting two works, called ‘Miami Dade’ and ‘Loaded for bear’.

The other exhibitions include three outdoor artistic interventions: ‘Per molts anys’ (for many years – in Valencian) by Reyes Pe at the Casa de la Festa; ‘De la risa al llanto’ (from laughter to tears) by Manuela Lorente, at the Plaza del Mercado Central; and ‘El realismo de lo absurdo’ (the realism of the absurd) by Maravilla Espín, on the stairs up to the Jorge Juan institute.

All three exhibitions will be on display until April 4.

CMCV director José Luis Pérez Pont said: “The museum consortium started participating in PhotoAlicante in 2018, through the production and coproduction of exhibitions, activities and meetings, with the aim of promoting contemporary artistic creation in its different languages through the photographic medium.

“PhotoAlicante has become a meeting point for lovers of contemporary photography, bringing it to all the public, at the same time as being a platform for promoting professionals in the sector, and being an ideal space to strengthen networks for the exchange of ideas trends.”
