Going green in San Pedro
MURCIA regional government has presented the first ‘People in Green’ international sustainability and environmental festival, which is due to take place in San Pedro del Pinatar from April 19-23.
The event will feature environmental literature, talks, exhibitions and a market for sustainable and recycled goods.
Director general for the environment, María Cruz Ferraira said: “For five days it will be the focus of attention and an attraction with a series of cultural events and experiences being offered to San Pedro residents as well as people who want to come to visit a true fiesta of the senses.”
She also assured it will help to internationalise the San Pedro del Pinatar and Murcia region brands, ‘and promote us as being modern, young, dynamic, brave and committed’.
At the municipal leisure and emerging arts centre on Friday, April 19, there will be storytelling by Mario Moya, and a discussion with the Indian philosopher, environmentalist, author, social activist and winner of the Right Livelisity
hood prize, Vandana Shiva.
The following day in the culture centre there will be a screening of a documentary called ‘El macizo colombiano’ (the Columbian Massif) with Gabi Martínez, and a workshop called ‘Linternatura’ about how to understand nature, followed by the inauguration of the photographic display ‘IN BLU’, in the exhibition hall.
The programme will be completed over the following three days with a talk and book signing by psychologist and writer Marta Gomez; a sustainable market with 16 stalls; a workshop on marine biodiver
and Neptune grass; a children's magic and recycling show; and closing on Sunday, April 23, with a book writing presentation by Joaquín Araújo.
“A society that loves and respects both the natural environment and the people around it is a society that is more prepared, aware, informed, free, supportive and involved to take on the other issues of sustainable development: social inclusion, economic growth and environmental balance,” concluded Sra Cruz Ferreira.
