Day trips to Balearics from Denia all summer

- By Samantha Kett

EXTRA ferry crossings between Denia and the Balearics have been programmed for summer, bringing the islands even closer to the Costa – near enough for a day trip.

Passenger shipping company Baleària, based in the Marina Alta district capital, has announced four new links to Ibiza and two to Palma de Mallorca per week over July and August.

The Ibiza trip will take three-and-a-half hours on the Bahama Mama, which will join the fleet in high season.

Ferries leave Denia at 07.30 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings to get to Ibiza by around 11.00.

They then leave Ibiza at 20.30, reaching the Marina Alta at about midnight.

Those wanting to go on to Mallorca will set off on the same ferry from Ibiza at 11.30 on Friday and Sunday mornings. Ships leave Palma bound for Denia via Ibiza at 16.30 on both days.

Whilst a slower journey than on the express Eleanor Roosevelt and Ramón Llull ferries, the Bahama Mama will cater for the extra passenger numbers seen in summer.

Creature comforts on board include a bar, shop, restaurant, children’s play area, free audiovisual entertainment from a

menu, wifi, and the option to pay extra for a ‘luxury’ seat or a sleeping cabin.

Pets are welcome, and owners can keep watch over them via webcam at all times through WhatsApp, by scanning a QR code.

Travellers who want to get to the Balearic Islands from Valencia or Barcelona will be able to choose from three crossings a day to Ibiza, three to Palma and one to Alcúdia on the north-east side of Mallorca.
