All the fun of the Sevillanas fair

THE 10TH Pilar de la Horadada Sevillanas fair takes place from April 27 to May 1, announced mayor José María Pérez and councillor for fiestas Susi Sánchez last week.

The celebratio­n is being held at the municipal fairground, situated at Parque Raimundo Benedicto, and will feature a number of live concerts, including performanc­es by Andy y Lucas, and Los del Río.

At 16.30 from Saturday to Monday, people are invited to enjoy an afternoon eating tapas and enjoying a drink, and, on all days, there will be a rendition of the hymn, Salve Rociera at 24.00.

The fair gets underway on Thursday, April 27 at 21.30, with the official inaugurati­on, light illuminati­on and firework display. Also on the agenda will be the crowning of the Madrina de Honor (matron of honour), the prize giving for the decorated stand competitio­n, and live music by En Voz de Ellas.

On Friday at 21.00 there will be a performanc­e by the Nadia Márquez dance school, and at 23.30 it will be the turn of the acclaimed flamenco-pop duo Andy y Lucas.

On Saturday at 12.00 the stringed instrument folk ensemble Rondalla Viejas Glorias will perform the traditiona­l Rociera Mass in the fiesta marquee. Following this, horses and carriages will be parading throughout the fairground until 19.00.

Meanwhile, Pepa Sáez Moda Flamenca (flamenco fashions) and 5 Flores Moda Flamenca will be holding fashion shows inside the marquee, starting at 18.30, and at 20.30 Ritmo Brillante, directed by Carmen del Amor, will give a flamenco show, and at 23.30 it will be the turn of Los del Río – the duo responsibl­e for the worldwide hit, Macarena – to provide the music.

On Sunday at 11.00 there will be a romería (pilgrimage) and floral offering to the Virgen del Pilar, which will leave from the fairground and finish at Nuestra Señora del Pilar parish church. The parade will be led by local dignitarie­s and is open to all residents, visitors, as well as horses and horsedrawn carriages. Once at the church there will be a rendition of the Salve Rociera led by Rondalla Viejas Glorias.

From 13.00-19.00 horses and carriages will be parading throughout the fairground, and at 19.30 La Amistad flamenco group, directed by Paqui Samper, and the Antonio Cuerva flamenco dance academy will be performing in the marquee.

This is followed at 20.30 with the grand equestrian show ‘art and fantasy of the Spanish horse’ and at 23.30 the music group Arte Payá will take to the stage.

On Monday from 13.00-19.00 horses and carriages will once again be parading throughout the fairground, and at 14.00 there will be a communal meal for residents aged 65 years and over. Prior registrati­on for the meal is essential and taking place at the town hall. This is followed at 16.00 with a live performanc­e in the marquee, by singer Tamara Jerez, and from 20.30 it will be the turn of the Raquel Peña Flamenco Cuadro, who will be accompanie­d by guitarist

Faustino Fernández and singer Paquito Sánchez. The fair closing ceremony takes place at 20.30.

The town hall has also informed that there will be supervised children’s activities and workshops taking place from Saturday to Monday from 11.0014.00 and 16.00-19.00.
