Cecilia Callegari and the evolution of tango
‘THE RETURN of Gardel’ is a mini-festival featuring two concerts at the Palau Altea, which will take a look at the evolution of Argentine tango.
The performances take place on May 5 and 6 and will feature interpretations of The Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas by Astor Piazzolla, and Postangos by Gerardo Gandini.
‘The return of Gardel’ forms part of the ‘20th century brushstrokes’ festival, which has been created by Cecilia Callegari, a classically trained pianist who is constantly searching for ‘new paths’.
The May 5 concert goes under the heading, ‘following the footsteps of Piazzolla’ and will see Cecilia Callegari accompanied by Slava Slavova (violin), Mariano Gil and Darío González Ivars (guitars) and Agustín Salamanca (cello).
“My goal is to share the universe I am creating, to transport with a show capable of fulfilling your expectations, because something will happen after listening to Piazzolla,” says the pianist about this show.
The following night’s performance is called a ‘homage to Gandini’.
Gerardo Gandini collaborated in Astor Piazzolla's last group and, with his classical training created re-readings of traditional tangos.
The evening’s concert will be at the hands of the pianist and teacher Ricardo Zanón, who said: “At a time when a lot of music comes pre-digested and ready for consumption, Gandini’s ‘Postangos’ offer a smart game for the ears. It is not enough to know the melody and harmony of tangos such as ‘El día que me quieras’, ‘Malena’ or ‘La última curda’, because this raw material is changed by the varied means of transformation that the pianist brings, from classical music, to improvisations.”
Tickets for individual concerts are €25 if purchased online and €26 on the door, or €41 for both and are available from the venue website at www.alteacul tural.com/agenda.
