IT was a fine day for a singles Stableford on Tuesday, April 18, with a coolish start that soon warmed up - as did the scoring.
It is worth a mention that the green keepers at Oliva Nova have been doing some great work on the course - it is in really good condition and a pleasure to play. Well do Jamie and the team.
There were a couple of notable events on the day, of which I have to mention Stephen Hills and his trolley. Stephen had only just started his round, and after a good third shot into the first green, he was looking for his ball and not watching his trolley. He should have been, as it carried off in to the barranca. He and his playing partners did manage to salvage it though, and luckily he was able to continue his round. Although he did run out of balls and had to make a stop in the golf shop to replenish supplies. “This was not one of my best days,” said Stephen.
We had a total of 28 players turn out for the singles Stableford.
There were no twos, so the prize fund is rolled over to next week. Nearest the pins went to Mike Holloway, who was having his first game out since he came back to Spain, on the fifth hole, with his second shot finishing closest. On the 16th it went to Nigel Siddall. Both Mike and Nigel were rewarded with a sleeve of Pego golf balls.
Scoring for fifth and sixth place and second and third places had to be decided on count back, but there was no doubt who came first, with an amazing 43 points, Bill Pike was the runaway winner, well done Bill, but we do feel a handicap reduction coming along.
