Benidorm in another time
‘BENIDORM Medieval’ returns to the town’s Parque de Elche this weekend, with around 100 stalls, shows and entertainment.
The event started yesterday (Thursday) and continues until Sunday, and is being organised by the town hall and the independent association of Benidorm and provincial business persons (AICO) to coincide with the 698th anniversary of the founding of the town.
Councillor for fiestas, Jesús Carrobles indicated that: “For another year, ‘medieval Benidorm’ enhances even more an event as important for us as the foundation of our town almost seven centuries ago, thereby complementing the events organised by the Grup Carta de Poblament and the fiesta group (peña) association and making this immersive journey to another time possible.”
He added that the event features a ‘very dynamic’ market in which, in addition to the commercial aspect, visitors will encounter ‘alterment,
native leisure for all people’.
AICO confirmed that the market will be the ‘epicentre’ of all the activities, and will contain almost 100 themed stalls, including stands hosted by Benidorm craftspeople, and cultural and social associations, such as ACR La Barqueta, Aerbeco and Cats Club.
In addition to the medieval market, there will also be a number of leisure activities and events, including musical performances, street entertainand children’s games, as well as decorated streets taking people back to the year 1325, where the public will be able to enjoy battling knights, magical fairies, mythological beings, folk music, elves, dancing, druids and a variety of characters.
The market opens at 10.30 on all days, with entertainment beginning 30 minutes later. During the afternoon it is open from 17.00-22.30.
