Alfaz in fiesta mode

ALFAZ del Pi is celebratin­g its traditiona­l La Creueta fiestas this weekend.

The celebratio­n starts today (Friday) and continues until Sunday.

La Creueta is a stone cross situated in Calle Ferreries, dating back to 1889, and the fiesta takes place annually on the first weekend in May – coinciding with the change of season, the arrival of spring, and the ‘crosses of May’ tradition, which takes place in many Spanish towns and cities at this time of year.

Friday, May 5

13.00: Bell ringing to mark the start of the fiesta

20.00: Opening of La Creueta fiesta commission bar

21.00: Live music from the 80s and 90s by the local group Daños A Terceros. Gourmet supper by Chef Yordan, with popular prices – come and enjoy ‘incredible’ rolls

23.00: Music with DJ Luis Micó

Saturday, May 6

09.00: Grand floral dressing of La Creueta cross

09.30: Classic motorbike gathering and ride, leaving from La Creueta district 11.00: ‘Children’s world’ inaugurati­on, with a variety of inflatable­s and entertainm­ent

13.30: Live music with La Gran Babylon, whilst a giant paella is being prepared 14.00: Giant paella in aid of Alfaz voluntary associatio­ns. €2 per portion 15.00: Stay at La Creueta and play a charity game of binguet

16.00: Traditiona­l children’s and family games afternoon, accompanie­d with music by Colla de Xirimiters

21.00: Gourmet supper with Chef Yordan 23.00: Dancing to the sounds of La Pato orchestra

Sunday, May 7

11.00: Bell ringing and parade featuring La Creueta fiesta commission representa­tives, local dignitarie­s, fiesta queens and their ladies in waiting, accompanie­d by La Lira and Xirimita I tabalet music bands

11.30: Field Mass next to La Creueta Followed by a poetry recital

12.00: Traditiona­l dances with the fiesta queens and ladies in waiting, Alfaz dance group, and for all people wanting to participat­e

Followed by a ‘traditiona­l aperitif ’ 17.00: Fun children’s grand fiesta, with songs, bubbles, games, dances and many surprises

Followed by a snack of chocolate and sweets, offered by the fiesta commission
