Costa Blanca Rugby
THE 36TH Costa Blanca Rugby Sevens return to Villajoyosa on May 27-28.
Each year, Villajoyosa hosts an international rugby sevens tournament at La Vila’s El Pantano stadium.
The tournament caters for all levels of senior seven-a-side rugby, including national teams and invitational sides.
A total of €5,000 prize money is up for grabs, with the elite international men’s and women’s champions getting €2,000 and the runners-up €500.
This thriving event is supported by the Valencia region government, Villajoyosa town hall, Alicante provincial government, and the Costa Blanca tourism board, and is sponsored by Hospital Clínica Benidorm and Viator.
The confirmed teams currently include, in the elite men’s sevens, Denmark national team, Red Wailers (UK), Portugal national team, All Stars Sevens (South Africa), Viator Barbarians (Spain), Belgium Barbarians, Lithuania national team, China national team, Romania national team, Spain national team, Olymp (Kazakhstan) and Akuma Rugby Agents (UK); and in the elite women’s sevens, Poland national team, UK All Stars (UK), Viator Costa Blanca (Spain), Romania national team, Sweden national team
and the Portugal national team.
The action takes place from 10.00-19.00 on both days, with the finals getting underway at 17.00 on Sunday.
Stand tickets are €10 for each day, with under 12s getting in free, and available online from www.entradium.com
Facilities at the ground include bars, DJ music, food stalls, a catering area, souvenir shop and free parking.
Anyone wishing to come along will find Villajoyosa rugby stadium at Carretera El Pantano, Villajoyosa. Exit 66 off of the AP-7 motorway.
