Goals galore as reds arrest slump

- Report by Steve Robinson

CD Montesinos halted a three game losing streak last Friday evening, away at UDF Sax, with a cavalcade of goals and defensive lapses by both sides, in a breathless 4-4 draw.

The tone was set for the contest early on, when within the first minute it took a smart save from Ivan in the Monte goal to avert disaster and equally as lucky, the follow up was lashed wide.

However, despite this nervy start, it was the Reds who drew first blood on five minutes, when some excellent hold up play from Pato, released Arturo to go one on one with the keeper and slot home.

Despite this setback, Sax looked the better and busier team, and would have been delighted when on 13 minutes they grabbed a leveller, with yet another keeper/defender mix-up for Monte playing a part.

Despite the Reds slowly growing into the game, they conceded another shocker on 22 minutes, when a floated cross-field ball saw the Sax winger take a touch and then loft the ball effortlessly over the out of position Ivan for 2-1 to the home team.

After this though, Monte had a much better period of play, with the ever-industrious Arturo and Dani Sawyer being notable standouts, however, the half ended as it had started, with the Reds a goal down.

The second period commenced with Monte comfortable but not really making any great inroads into the Sax lead, but on 54 minutes an almost carbon copy of the second Sax goal, saw the irrepressible Pato race onto the cross-field pass and dink it past the keeper into the net. Just reward for his ploughing a somewhat lone furrow up front for most of the match.

Three minutes later, a long throw by Dani Saiz, hoisted into the box, saw defender Oussama, up from the back, flick in past a statuesque Sax defence. Almost anything you could do badly, so can we!

Barely had the Monte celebrations died down though, when a long ball from a free kick into the area, saw the Reds defence part like the proverbial Red Sea, allowing the Sax attacker to waltz through at least three soft tackles and tap home. Yet more calamitous defending had cost Monte another lead.

Surely both sides defences couldn't concede more, could they?

Wrong! On 70 minutes a fast-paced attack down the left flank saw the ball crossed to Pato, who for once had managed to shake off his two markers to slam home for his well-deserved brace.

Monte were in control and surely had to go on and secure the three points. Wrong again! Barely five minutes later, the dozy defending happened again, as Sax broke and were able to score a relatively simple tap in. Unbelievable Jeff!

More goals? No! But both sides did have chances. Even the late addition of the wonderfully named Sax player, James Brown, didn't prove a turning point and the game ended all square.

Vamos Monte!
