Car blows up
A driver escaped in the nick of time when his car blew up in a Dénia street during rush hour. He had been on his way to hospital for other reasons at around 08.00 on Wednesday when smoke began billowing out of his bonnet. The motorist stopped the car immediately on Calle Campo Torres, at which point the engine burst into flames. He bailed out straight away and called the fire brigade, whose swift presence stopped the flames from spreading to a number of wheelie-bins nearby. The driver was uninjured, but the car was completely written off.
