A drone collided with an aircraft over the coast of Elche on Sunday, fortunately not causing any damage but prompting a warning about the restrictions on these devices given the proximity of the airport.

tercept the drone flyers on the beach.

The airport has a significant exclusion zone which affects these devices, covering the whole northern and central areas of the municipality, plus another around the airfield in Catral.

As such, recreational flying is only permitted in a specific area from the edge of La Vereda de Sendres to the top of La Hoya, and to the south through La Marina to the municipal border.

Even in this area there are additional regulations or permits for flying over protected natural spaces, or if users want to take photographs, as there is a military restriction zone.

All this is in addition to laws protecting people’s privacy, restricting activity over built-up areas, and regulations on line of sight, altitude and weight of the device.

Much of this data can be consulted on the state aerial security agency (AESA) website or from aviation service providers such as ENAIRE.
