Music in the Castle Festival returns to Dénia
STORMING the castle next weekend with a fusion of Mediterranean folk and contemporary tunes, Dénia's favourite summer music festival is back in town.
A romantic, mythical and beautiful venue for a series of late-night open-air concerts, it's no wonder the Música al Castell season in the grounds of this Mediaeval gem sell out like ice-creams in a heatwave.
All shows start at 23.00 and tickets can be bought from the tourist information offices or on the door. Get one concert free if you buy a pass for the whole lot at €35.

Described as 'the new voice of the Mediterranean', trio Nes brings a haunting and exotic brand of acoustic soul music, fused with Arabic touches, to the Marina Alta capital's mountaintop fortress. You'll be blown away by the magical voice of French-Algerian opera and jazz singer and cellist Nesrine Belmokh, and her string and percussion boys Matthieu Saglio and David Gadea. Pure gold. Tickets cost €10 a head.

Flamenco legend Carmen Linares revives the timeless tal- ent of Elche-born wartime poet Miguel Hernández, one of Spain's 20th-century literary icons, by putting his works to music and singing them over the rooftops in her must-see show Verso a Verso. Tickets cost €15 a head.

Big, bold and full of brass in every sense, the Boban Markovik Orkestar is definitely one for the calendar if you're a film buff as well as a music-lover.
Sax, cornet, trumpet, trombone and a baker's dozen of brilliant Balkan artists, this talented crowd composed and played the soundtracks for several of the silver-screen productions by director Emir Kusturica, a hot name in cinema in the band's native Serbia. Tickets cost €15 a head.
