Alicante city children go back to school early

INFANT school and primary school pupils in Alicante City will be going back to school today (Friday, September 7), while the rest of schools in the Valencia region will return to their classrooms next Monday, September 10.

The reason for bringing forward the dates for Alicante city, is to allow schools to close on June 20, 2019, which is the date the city’s ‘hoguera’ monuments are set up.

Another change to the city’s school calendar is that there will be classes on San Vicente (Monday, April 29) which is a school holiday throughout the Valencia region. To compensate Alicante city’s pupils and teachers will have Friday, May 3 off to enjoy a long weekend, as Thursday, May 2 is a holiday (Santa Faz).

Other school holidays that will permit long weekends are: November 2, December 7, March 18.
