Anchors away
TOURISM at sea continues to raise environmental concerns at a tiny Costa Blanca cove that acts as a magnet for boat owners. Cala Sardinera in Jávea was once traditionally home to sardine fishermen – today its clear waters and safe swimming attract large numbers of motor cruisers and yachts, but, many visitors complain about nautical overcrowding.
The area is patrolled by police because of the potentially damage caused to the seabed by boats anchoring in the cove; rated as one of the most beautiful on the Valencia coast. Buoys have been fixed to allow boats to tie up and skippers are encouraged to use these or to moor against other vessels.
