Ondara digs up underground bins
Ondara's classy and costly underground bins are creating a stink and are being replaced with old-fashioned wheeled containers. Mechanical problems causing a breakdown in the system beneath the surface mean the shiny metal waste and recycling bins, which are attached to underground tanks, are giving off a pong – which defeats their object. Wheelie-bins have been set up along with yellow and blue recycling banks, the first for tins, plastics and cartons and the second for paper and cardboard, now sit in place of the subterranean versions on the C/ Dénia and C/ Sant Jaume. The underground bins have been removed altogether, and it is not known whether they will be replaced by new ones, or repaired.
