Ryanair to operate from new airport
Budget airline Ryanair has finally confirmed that its planes will operate at Corvera airport (Murcia International RMU) from January 15 due to the closure of Murcia-San Javier airport. The low fares airline has been selling tickets for several months for Murcia without specifying whether the flight is to San Javier (MJV) or Corvera (RMU), which had caused concern amongst passengers. Until the end of March the budget operator will operate routes from Murcia International airport to Birmingham, Leeds/Bradford and Dublin twice a week; to East Midlands, London Luton and Manchester three times a week; and London Stansted five times a week. Then from April 1 until the end of October flights are scheduled twice a week to Glasgow and Leeds/Bradford; four times a week to Bournemouth and Birmingham; six times a week to Manchester; and daily to East Midlands, London Luton, London Stansted and Dublin.
Jet2 and easyJet have confirmed that they are moving some of their flights to Corvera and Spanish low fares airline Volotea has announced a route to Oviedo in Asturias. However, British Airways has cancelled its route to London Heathrow from Murcia and TUI and Norwegian have not revealed whether they will continue operating in the region. Murcia International Airport stands 33 kilometres inland from San Javier airport - that will be shut down at the end of December.
