Peñon clean-up

A cit­i­zens' clean-up of the Peñon de Ifach rock sur­round­ing in Calpe took place on Sun­day. Vol­un­teers an­swer­ing the call may by the Cit­i­zen's Par­tic­i­pa­tion depart­ment gath­ered at the car park at 10.30 and re­ceived in­struc­tions from Bri­tish ex­pat coun­cil­lor Ca­role Saun­ders. Vol­un­teers were is­sued with gloves and large plas­tic bags to col­lect rub­bish. Res­i­dents re­trieved a lot of plas­tic, pa­per, beer cans, glass bot­tles from bushes and scrub land.

In ad­di­tion, some heavy builders items were re­cov­ered for col­lec­tion by truck.

Al­to­gether 20 bags of rub­bish were filled af­ter two hours work plus the items col­lected by the trucks. Vol­un­teers were re­warded with a paella at the Zafiro restau­rant.
