A citizens' clean-up of the Peñon de Ifach rock surrounding in Calpe took place on Sunday. Volunteers answering the call may by the Citizen's Participation department gathered at the car park at 10.30 and received instructions from British expat councillor Carole Saunders. Volunteers were issued with gloves and large plastic bags to collect rubbish. Residents retrieved a lot of plastic, paper, beer cans, glass bottles from bushes and scrub land.
In addition, some heavy builders items were recovered for collection by truck.
Altogether 20 bags of rubbish were filled after two hours work plus the items collected by the trucks. Volunteers were rewarded with a paella at the Zafiro restaurant.
