Pego Golf Society captain Dave Phillips handed a €1,000 cheque to Help of Denia and the Marina Alta – and promised there was more to come.

The money was raised during his year as the club’s captain; however, his tenure does not end until December 31, so the fund raising goes on.

Dave and his wife Alaide made the presentation to Help at Denia hospital; and said the charity was ‘a very good cause’.

He said: “The money was raised at various society social evenings, including Captain’s Day, the summer dinner dance, and society competitions – and a little friendly bullying by me.

“I am still captain to the end of the year; there’s more money to come after the Christmas Dinner Dance. I set a target at the beginning of the year; and we have known the hospital and Help for over 10 years so it is good to give something back.”

Help president Candy Wright said the money would support the charity’s work. “And the Help team at the hospital always need a helping hand too.”
