CENTRAL Government has made a firm commitment and promise for the go ahead of a direct access road from the N332 to the Marina Baixa hospital in Vilajoyosa.

Following a united collaboration not only from the hospital board of governors but also with the mayors of the 18 towns within the Marina Baixa, resulting in a petition with over 10,000 signatures, the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works have announced that the tender for the project is imminent – certainly within 'the first two months of the year'.

Vicente Arqués, Mayor of Alfaz and a vocal supporter of the proposal, was delighted to hear the announcement and stated that it 'was excellent news which will offer maximum quality of care for all citizens of the Marina Baixa'.

Currently the road passes just 50 metres from the hospital but with no direct exit has a lengthy detour, which in an emergency could be the difference between life and death.

The Department of Health is also planning a major expansion of the current hospital, which will see it double in size.
