Young at Heart

- By Irena Bodnarec

A BRAND new charity shop ‘Second Time Around’ will open its doors in Calpe tomorrow, Saturday January 12 on the main road between Sabadell and Total Postal.

Open six days a week, from 09.30 until 17.30, proceeds from money raised will be channelled into an activity day centre aimed at the over 50’s – ‘The Young At Heart Day Centre’ based at The Grand Sol hotel.

Directors David Cassim and Peter Lyons saw a gap in the market for an English speaking non-residential day centre in the area which offers the elderly a homely haven that offers both mental and social stimulation.

Looking after loved ones, especially those with dementia can be exhausting but now carers can have a few hours of respite, safe in the knowledge that trained and qualified staff will be there to look after them.

Open three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.00 until 15.00 the daily €40 charge will include a homecooked hot lunch, refreshments throughout the day and local transport to and from home.

Some of the activities include bingo, word search, sit & stretch, yoga, puzzles, arts & craft and sing-a-long sessions, all varied and tailored to the individuals needs and capabilities. But there will also be a podiatrist and hairdresser on hand, whose services will be available free of charge and provided from the proceeds of the charity shop.
