Hiker air-lifted to hospital

-

A hiker had to be air-lifted to hospital on Tuesday after a severe fall in L'Atzúvia, near Pego, firefighters reveal.

The 50-year-old Mexican woman was walking along the popular Camí de la Font footpath at around lunchtime when she twisted her ankle.

Her companions, seeing that she was unable to put any weight on her foot, called emergency services. The fire brigade summoned their Alpha 1 rescue helicopter and paramedics fitted her with a splint to immobilise her leg in case she had suffered a fracture.

It is believed she had at least sustained a severe sprain.

She was flown to the fire station in Dénia, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to A&E.
