Calpe climber dies

A MAN died on Tuesday after suffering a climbing accident near Calpe. According to the emergency services, a call was received from the Sierra de Toix, between Mascarat and Calpe, at around 12:15. Fire and rescue crews were sent to the scene, where they discovered him unconscious with multiple injuries. The Alpha 1 helicopter was called, who transported the man to Benidorm. He was transferred to an ambulance, but his condition deteriorated and the crew had to resuscitate him. After stabilising him, they transferred him to the Marina Baixa hospital. Sadly, his condition worsened upon arrival and he died a short time later.
