La Nucia goes on top

Costa Blanca News (North Edition) - - LOCAL SPORT -

CF LA NUCIA kicked-off 2019 in the best possible way: with a 0-2 away win over Villamarxant that puts them at the top of their Third Division group.

Miguel Angel Martínez's men played on 'Reyes Day' (Sunday) at the Hermanos Albiol stadium and the first chances of the match were for the home team.

However, the reds gradually worked their way into the game and went into the lead in the 32nd minute in their first approach. Jandro crossed the ball and Juanjo hammered it to the back of the net with a superb right-leg kick at the far post.

After the break, Villamarxant tried to come back and had a few chances, but in the 57th minute La Nucía nearly scored again and reds were back in charge, building up to their second goal in the 76th minute.

Javi Solero stole the ball in the midfield area and mounted a fast counterattack that saw Fran scoring practically without opposition.

Meanwhile, main promotion contenders in Third Division group 6, Olimpic de Xátiva (leaders until this week) were only able to draw against fifthplace Eldense - the same result obtained by third-placed At. Saguntino.

Hence, CF La Nucía achieved the honorary title of winter champions and now face the second leg of the competition in the lead.

This weekend, La Nucía will face Alzira in their second consecutive away match.
