Cranberry
Cranberries are low creeping shrubs of up to 2 metres long with small evergreen leaves with dark pink flowers – the berries are actually larger than the leaves.
They are rich in iron, calcium, potassium and vitamins B and C plus loaded with antioxidants. 98% of the world’s production comes from the United States Wisconsin, Canada - Quebec and Chile.
Fresh cranberries are hard, sour and bitter and around 95% are processed to make juice, jam and sauce.
However, because of their tartness cranberry juice is sweetened with other fruit juices or with sugar and can contain more than a fizzy drink. There are several cocktails that uses cranberry juice, including a Cosmopolitan made with vodka, triple sec and lime juice.
