What has the Oliva U3A got to offer?

-

If anyone thinks that being an active member of the local Oliva U3A is just about meeting people and taking up hobbies then read on. With approximately 500 members living in or around Oliva we care about the local community. Moving to Spain is not just about living in a warmer climate, it’s about embedding ourselves into the culture and becoming part of the community.

Over the festive period members and groups have come together to support local charities and hopefully spread a little festive cheer.

The Children's Christmas Party

A children's Christmas party was held by Oliva U3A at the CPC on December 12 , when 57 under privileged children from Oliva attended. They were welcomed by volunteers and enjoyed a short period of dancing and music before being taken to the dining area for their tea.

After their party food Atul and Veronica along with a number of volunteers helped entertain the children with a bouncy castle, juggling items, mono cycles and a painting and creative section. All the children enjoyed this by trying out their skills on different items.

At 7pm Santa arrived along with his elf helper, they gave the children sweets as they walked through the hall. Following this each child received a box of presents which had been donated by U3A members, who we thank very much. It was a pleasure to see the faces of these children light up when they opened their present.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped in various ways to make this party a superb success.

The five U3A Christmas Carolers managed to raise €116 for the Oliva U3A chosen charity AECC (Spanish Cancer Research) for this year and would like to thank the generous listeners from the few local bars/coffee shops they sang at. The singers are all members of the U3A Choir and thoroughly enjoyed their evening out.

If you would like to join Oliva U3A and the choir and join in the fun please contact Lynda Goy on choir@u3aoliva.org
