Diver saves turtle

- By Nuria Pérez nperez@cbnews.es

A LOGGERHEAD turtle has been released back into the sea at Bolnuevo beach near Mazarrón after being treated for injuries at El Valle recovery centre for wild animals near Murcia city.

The turtle was found trapped in a net by a diver near the Estacio bridge in La Manga del Mar Menor.

He was able to release it and then took it to the local police station. At El Valle, she was given a specific diet to help her recover.

The turtle was microchipped and will now be tracked by scientists from Valencia’s Oceanographic centre.

A spokesman for the regional government thanked the diver for helping the turtle.

“Without his help, it would have died,” he noted.

A total of 12 loggerhead turtles were treated last year by the vets at El Valle, helping in the recovery of this vulnerable species.
