Speed up your internet during the lockdown
As millions are suddenly found in lockdown and confined at home, their one sense of normality is contact with the outside world via the internet.
Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Live Streaming and downloading films all require good fast broadband and providers are unsurprisingly reporting a surge in use. Media regulator Ofcom have suggested people should avoid using the microwave at the same time as their Wi-Fi to improve internet speeds. Other tips include positioning your internet router as far as feasible from other devices and as high as possible, avoiding the floor. Devices that can interfere with router signals include cordless phones, baby monitors, halogen lamps, dimmer switches, computer speakers, televisions and monitors.
